The Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) is a Portuguese Higher Education Public Institution with 7,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, embracing a wide area of knowledge and technology, including agriculture sciences, arts and sports, education and teacher training, informatics and engineering, administration and management, health, communication and tourism.

The IPB belongs to the European Network for Universities of Applied Sciences (UASnet), whose main objectives include the transfer of professional skills and the integration of applied research in their professional and technological education mission. The IPB also has an internationalization programme successful, including an annual mobility of more than 700 incoming and outgoing students and 200 teaching staff members, as the result of the collaboration with several higher education institutions from all over the world. Today, the IPB is a multicultural institution, where 10% of its students are international students. In 2011, the European Commission has awarded the ECTS Label to the IPB, acknowledging the quality of the information provided in terms of the degree programmes offered and the management of student mobility within the European Higher Education Area.

The main tasks of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança in the project are: to coordinate national project activities, the leadership of the work packages concerning dissemination and exploitation, the co-leadership of all work packages concerning the development, implementation and evaluation of the online platform and the preparation and realization of a face to face project meeting. Amongst other tasks IPB will coordinate the cooperation with the Portuguese pilot schools.

Isabel Chumbo, the national team and work package leader of dissemination and exploitation, is Assistant Professor in English Literature and has done her PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies. She has worked as a freelance translator for over 10 years. She is currently in charge of the Translation Office of the Language Center at the Polytechnic Institute Bragança, Portugal and is involved in researching and applying in CLIL – Content and Language Integrated Learning.

Vitor Manuel Gonçalves, co-leader of all work packages related to the online platform, has been a Professor at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) - Portugal since December 1999. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Semantic Web, e-Learning, Software Agents, Information retrieval, Project Management) and a Master Degree in Multimedia Technology (Web Information Systems, Software Engineering, Multimedia Systems and Technologies, Project Management, Computer Networks, Computer Programming, Graphics, Audio and Video). Of value for his work in the project are also expertise in installation, configuration and administration of open source e-Learning Platforms and Content Management Systems.

Elisabete Mendes Silva is an Assistant Professor at the Polythecnic Institute of Bragança where she teaches English Language and Culture. Currently, she is the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages. In her M.A. studies she specialized in Culture Studies and wrote her thesis on George Orwell’s political Essays. She holds a PhD on Isaiah Berlin`s political thought. She is a researcher at ULICES - University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies - and has been involved in the research projects on the British Empire and Victorian Like Us.
