The Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca is a public institution of higher education, research and training whose mission is to promote and sustain within the local, regional, national and international community the development of specific scientific and cultural components.

The Babeș-Bolyai University comprises in its structure 21 faculties, departments and institutes, libraries, laboratories, research units, museums, student homes and administrative services. It is the largest Romanian university and has an enrolment of over 53.000 students within all its study programmes. The university is staffed by 1.700 teachers. As a multicultural university, the Babeș-Bolyai University offers a comprehensive programme of education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (BA, MA and PHD) along with research and training in three languages - Romanian, Hungarian and German.

The Department of Pedagogics and Didactics in German Language, part of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, offers both initial and post gradual specific studies in German language, for those students who will later teach in kindergartens and primary school and all specific topics in secondary schools in the German schools of Romania (all humanities, all sciences, music, arts).The expertise of the staff (Dr. Ioana Velica, Dr. Mirona Stanescu), combined with those from the Department of Didactics of Humanities (Raluca Petrus, Anamaria Marc), guarantees the quality of initial and consquent education and training of students and teachers.

Main tasks of the Babes-Bolyai-University in the project are: to coordinate national project activities, the co-leadership of work packages concerning the development and implementation of the teaching and learning resources and the preparation and realization of a face to face project meeting and presenting the project at national or international conferences. Amongst other tasks Babes-Bolyai-University will coordinate the cooperation with the Romanian pilot schools.

Dr. Ioana Velica, the national team leader and co-leader of the development and implementation of the teaching and learning resources is Associate Professor at the Department of Pedagogics and Didactics in German Language at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences with a MA in German and Romanian language and literature (1987) and a PhD in Educational Sciences (2006). She has 10 years of experience in teaching German at university level for future language teachers. Since 1999 she is member of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, where she taught different courses in educational sciences and didactics of German as a foreign language, German as mother tongue at primary school and kindergarten. She has developed various concepts and teaching materials on learning German as a foreign language, as L2 or mother tongue at different levels (primary, secondary school, kindergarten), on teaching German and the specific didactics, also on teaching at primary level, games in school and computer assisted education of language. She has experience as project partner in: Mig-Komm-EU, Research, innovation and communication in the educational system of teacher trainers at university level, DYLAN - Language Dynamics and Management of Diversity and Research of the formative value of university seminar.
