Complutense University was founded by Cardinal Cisneros in the ancient town of Complutum, the present day Alcalá de Henares, in 1499. It began with only five Faculties (Arts and Philosophy, Theology, Canon Law, Letters and Medicine). Today, in 2013, being the largest university in Spain, Complutense offers 292 official titles and 158 own degrees. During the 2011–2012 academic year the university recorded an enrolment of 84.985 students.
Complutense currently has inter-institutional agreements with many universities around the word. The UCM also operates four full-time institutions outside of Spain: Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University, USA, Collège des Hautes Études Européennes Miguel Servet (Paris, France), Cátedra Complutense en la Universidad de Karlova (Prague, Czech Republic), Cátedra Dubcek (Bratislava, Slovakia).
The location, Campus in Moncloa, north west of Madrid, houses two universities –Complutense and Polytechnic, as well as research centers (CSIC, CIEMAT and INIA), fostering synergies in higher education, research and innovation. Taking advantage of this unique environment, the project “Moncloa Campus of excellence” is being developed as a collaborative agreement between the integrating institutions, to achieve scientific excellence and internationalization and to guarantee connectivity and integration.
The Faculty of Education was founded in 1991, merging three previous institutions - Educational Sciences at Faculty of Philosophy, University School of Teacher Education and Institute of Education Sciences (ICE), in order to integrate and coordinate all educational studies in one institution. The Faculty offers four degrees (Primary and Infant Education Teacher Training, Social Teacher Training and Pedagogy), along with Masters in Education and Doctorate courses.The staff involved in the project is actually working in a Complutense Project related with the development and use of web 2.0 tools.
The main tasks of Complutense University in the project are: to coordinate national project activities, the co- leadership in work packages related to the development of the online platform and the evaluation of the developed teaching and learning materials, the preparation and realization of a face to face project meeting and to present the project at national or international conferences. Amongst other tasks, Complutense University in Madrid will take part in all exploitation activities and will coordinate the cooperation with the Spanish pilot schools.
Mariangeles Caballero, the Spanish team leader and co-leader of the work package for the evaluation of teaching and learning materials has developed some projects related to the use of an interactive website to enhance reading competences ( She has created the computer version of a professional guidance test that provides self-correction and basic interpretation of the results. Currently she is responsible for a research project (PIMCD 169) related with the design of methodological experiences incorporating web 2.0 tools to develop cooperative learning.

García Tartera, Technical Engineer in Electronics (URV, 1981); Expert in e-Commerce (UAH, 1998); Master in Knowledge and Information Society (UOC, 1999); Master in Education and TIC -e-Learning- (UOC, 2012); Master in Risks Prevention at Work -Ergonomics and Psychosocial- (UOC, 2015); PhD in Education (UCM, 2015).
Large industrial experience (more than 20 years) working for several international enterprises (Gevaert, Agfa, Supporter...). Expertise in Graphic Arts (newspapers, printing machines, preprinting, electronic design, etc.) and outsourcing.
Education expert with over 25 years dedicated to teaching at different levels: secondary, vocational, adult, college, teacher training, distance learning, e-learning, tutor training, etc. High knowledge of computer systems, networks and new technologies. Big experience in European educational programs (Comenius, Grundtvig, Leonardo, Study Visits, Mobility, Minerva...).
